Train to Kashmir Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Katra-Sangaldan section of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project on April 19.
This project will complete the rail connectivity from Kanyakumari (Kashmir to Kanyakumari Train) to Kashmir. The project includes the world’s highest arch bridge Chenab Bridge which connects the rail route from Delhi to Kashmir via Katra.
Four days later, on April 19, the Prime Minister of the country Narendra Modi will inaugurate the final phase of the Katra Sangaldan section of the Udhampur-Srinagar Baramulla rail link (project). After this, the rail connectivity from Kanyakumari to Kashmir will be completed.
The project is 272 km long from Katra to Sangaldan. The special thing is that this phase also includes Chenab Bridge, which is the world’s tallest arch bridge. This bridge connects the railway route from Delhi to Kashmir via Katra.
A resident of Bakkal village near the bridge said, “This bridge is in our area. PM Modi will inaugurate this bridge on April 19. We are very happy; everyone in the village is very happy. The construction of this bridge has created a lot of employment opportunities, and we will get employment opportunities even after the inauguration.”
‘Train to Kashmir is every Indian’s dream’
On April 10, Dilip Kumar, Executive Director (ED/IP), Information & Publicity, Railway Board, highlighted the significance of the 272-km-long USBRL (Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link) project, which includes a 119-km-long tunnel.
Speaking to ANI, Kumar said that the project is expected to boost connectivity, tourism and religious importance for the Kashmir region. Running a train to Kashmir has been the dream of every Indian.
He said that we have done a long preparation for this and now this USBRL section is ready. There is a 119 kilometer long tunnel in this 272 kilometer section.
This entire area is very important for Kashmir’s religious, tourism and connectivity. Kumar said that on the day of its inauguration, two Vande Bharat Express trains will start service, one from Srinagar and the other from Katra to Srinagar.
Two Vande Bharat Express will run
The Executive Director of the Railway Board said that on the date of commencement of the project, we have planned to run two Vande Bharat Express trains. One Vande Bharat Express train will run from Srinagar, and the other will run from Katra to Srinagar.
On January 23, Indian Railways conducted a trial run of the first Vande Bharat train from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra (SVDK) railway station to Srinagar railway station. The train will pass through India’s first cable-stayed railway bridge Anji Khad Bridge and the world’s highest railway bridge Chenab Bridge. The train has been designed keeping in mind the cold climatic conditions of the Kashmir valley.
Route of Vande Bharat Express?
Vande Bharat Express will depart from Katra Railway Station and will reach Srinagar via Reasi, Sangaldan, Banihal, Kanjigund, Anantnag.
