ITR e-filing: ITR e-filing will start from this date, Salary class taxpayers may have to wait

ITR e-filing 2023: Income Tax Return (ITR) e-filing for FY 2022-23 is expected to start soon. According to media reports, experts are expecting that taxpayers can start filing their returns from the last week of April or the first week of May.

The new financial year 2023-24 has started from 1 April 2023. Taxpayers will have to file their income tax return for the financial year 2022-23 by 31 July. However, the salaried class may have to wait till the second week of June as employers are expected to prepare Form 16 for assessment year 2023-24 around that time. The e-filing portal of the Income Tax Department does not yet have the option of ITR filing for assessment year 2023-24 for salary class taxpayers.

ITR filing season for assessment year 2023-24 is about to begin. It is believed that taxpayers will be able to file their ITR from the last week of April or the first week of May. Filing will be done on income up to FY 2022-23 i.e. 1 April 2022 and 31 March 2023.

Salary class people may have to wait for one more month. Salaried class usually wait for Form 16 from their company. It is mostly available in the beginning of June. This means that salary class employees can file their returns from mid June 2023 till July 31, 2023.

In February this year, the Income Tax Department has released ITR forms for individuals, Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs), businessmen for the financial year 2022-23.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) had issued a notification on February 10 in which ITR Forms 1-6, ITR-V (verification form) and ITR acknowledgment form have been issued for the financial year 2022-23. Last year such forms were notified in the first week of April.

Taxpayers can download the ITR offline utility by going to the Downloads menu option. Then through the same ITR can be filled and filed. There are seven types of ITR forms ranging from ITR 1 (Sahaj), ITR 2, ITR 3, ITR 4, ITR 5, ITR 6 and ITR 7 for Individuals, businessmen and companies.
