But do you know that Railways gives you full refund if the train is late. Yes, if your train is late by more than 3 hours and you do not want to travel in it, then you can claim for a refund. Railways refunds you the full amount of the ticket.
Refund will be available both online and offline
If your train is late by more than 3 hours, you can claim for refund through both online and offline means. If you have taken a ticket from the counter, you will have to surrender your ticket at your boarding station for refund. People who book tickets online can get refund on e-tickets by filing TDR. It takes about 3 months.

You can file TDR like this
- Go to the official website of IRCTC, Irctc.co.in.
- Log in with your user ID and password.
- Click on “File Ticket Deposit Receipt (TDR)” in the ‘Services’ tab.
- Click on File TDR link in the left panel under My Transactions tab.
- After this the TDR claim request will be sent to the concerned Railway for processing the refund.
- After this, the ticket money will be refunded within a maximum of 3 months.
- Money will be refunded in the same account through which the ticket was paid.
- No refund will be given on cancellation of confirmed Tatkal ticket.
In case of train cancellation
If a train is canceled by the Railways, the refund money is returned within 3-7 days through the automatic refund process. This facility is available for passengers who book tickets online. People who book tickets offline have to take refund from the PRS counter. For this, you have to surrender your ticket and apply for refund within 3 days of the departure of the train.
