Hydrogen Train: March 31 is a very special day for Indian Railways. India’s first hydrogen train will run today. This train will run on the Jind Sonipat route. The length of this route is 89 kilometers.

India’s first hydrogen train has been built at the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai. Hydrogen trains have the potential to bring about a huge change in India’s transport system. This will reduce pollution caused by running trains. The Railway Ministry has set aside Rs 2,800 crore for the hydrogen train project.

Running a hydrogen train does not cause pollution

Hydrogen train uses hydrogen as fuel to run. Burning hydrogen produces water. In this way this train runs on clean energy. This will help in achieving the goals of zero carbon emissions.

India has developed the world’s largest hydrogen-powered train engine. While most countries have built hydrogen trains with a capacity of 500 to 600 horsepower (HP), India has achieved great success by building an engine with a capacity of 1,200 horsepower.

Special features of India’s hydrogen train

  • The maximum speed of the hydrogen train is 110 km/h. Due to the high speed, people will take less time to travel.
  • This train can carry 2,638 passengers.
  • The hydrogen train engine produces 1,200 HP of power. It is the world’s most capable hydrogen-powered train engine.

Advantages of hydrogen train

  • Unlike diesel engines, hydrogen trains emit only water vapor. This does not cause pollution.
  • Hydrogen fuel cells offer a more energy-efficient alternative to conventional fuels.
  • Although the cost of hydrogen train may be higher initially, it will be more profitable in the long run. It will save fuel and will also benefit the environment.
  • Hydrogen trains run quieter, providing greater comfort to passengers.
