India’s First Hydrogen Train: From next month, a train will run in the country which will neither run on diesel nor will it need electricity to run. This train which runs on ‘water’ is set to run on the tracks soon. Know the route, speed and special features of this train…

From steam engines to the coal smoke emitting chugging trains, over time, they have not only increased their speed but also got a complete makeover. Today, Indian Railways trains are running on diesel and electricity. Luxury trains like Vande Bharat, Shatabdi, Tejas are running on the tracks, while the work on the bullet train is going on at a rocket speed. Amidst all this, from next month, a train is going to run in the country which will neither run on diesel nor does it need electricity to run. For the first time in the country, such a train is going to run, which will run with the help of water. As a pilot project, the route of this special train has also been decided. The prototype train is set to run in December 2024. We are talking about the hydrogen train that will run in India from next month. The route, distance, speed of this train is all decided. Preparations are underway for its trial run in December 2024. This train will run on hydrogen fuel, for this the train will need 40000 liters of water every hour. Water storage will be built for this.

Plan to run 35 hydrogen trains in the country

The test of hydrogen fuel cell and infrastructure of the hydrogen train running on ‘water’ has been successful. The design of the cell and the hydrogen plant have been approved. There are plans to run 35 hydrogen trains across the country. According to Railway PRO Dilip Kumar, the cost of one hydrogen train is around Rs 80 crore.

People are surprised to hear how the train will run with the last water. Let us understand what is the whole science behind this. Actually, Indian Railways has set a target of making itself a ‘net zero carbon emitter’ by the year 2030, to achieve this target, the Railways has decided to run hydrogen trains. It is believed that this train can start in the year 2024-25. Railways is preparing to run 35 hydrogen trains on different routes. Hydrogen trains run on hydrogen fuel. This train has hydrogen fuel cells instead of diesel engines, which do not emit carbon dioxide, nitrogen or particulate matter. Pollution can be controlled by running these trains.

What is special about hydrogen train?

With the help of hydrogen fuel cells, electricity is generated in this train by converting hydrogen and oxygen. This electricity is used to run the train. The engine running on hydrogen gas will release steam and water instead of smoke. This train will have 60 percent less noise than a diesel engine, its speed and passenger carrying capacity will also be equal to that of a diesel train.

On which route will the first hydrogen train run

It is believed that the country’s first hydrogen train will run on the 90 km Jind-Sonipat route in Haryana. Apart from this, this train can also be run on Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, Nilgiri Mountain Railway, Kalka Shimla Railway, Matheran Railway, Kangra Valley, Bilmora Waghai and Marwar-Devgarh Madaria routes. It is believed that the speed of this train will be 140 km/hour. This train can run up to 1000 km in one go.
