Already getting up to 55 percent discount
On the demand being made by the opposition parties and passengers, the Railway Minister had said that the Railways is already giving subsidy of up to 55 percent on passenger tickets. Now according to the data released by the Railways, in the year 2022-23, the Railways has so far received an additional income of Rs 41,000 crore on an annual basis. Railways said that in the current financial year, a revenue of Rs 1,91,162 crore has been received so far.
Will the discount on tickets be restored again?
It was told by the Railways that it was Rs 1,48,970 crore in the same period a year ago. According to statistics, Railways has carried 1185 million tonnes of goods so far in the current financial year. Railways is expecting a total revenue of Rs 2,35,000 crore in 2022-23. Even before this, the figures of additional earnings of Railways have come to the fore. With the increase in the revenue of the Railways, it is expected that the exemption on tickets for senior citizens can be restored by the government again.
Demand for restoration of exemption in fare
After the news of improvement in railway revenue, the demand for restoration of the exemption given to senior citizens on tickets before the Corona period is expected to intensify. In fact, on the demand for exemption in rail fare, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav had said that 55 percent subsidy is already being given on the fare by the Railways. Now it will be a matter to be seen whether the senior citizens get the exemption in rent again or not.
