Indian Railways : The committee said that the concessions abolished in various categories of senior citizens during the Covid epidemic about two and a half years ago should be reviewed again.
Radha Mohan Singh, chairman of the Parliament’s Standing Committee on Railways, has mentioned this in the report presented in Parliament recently.
The committee said, the railways had stopped the concessions given to senior citizens in various categories in view of the epidemic and Covid protocol. In this, 50 percent concession was given to women above the age of 58 years and 40 percent to men above 60 years of age.
The committee said that the railways is now moving towards normalcy, so they should give prudent consideration to the concessions given in different categories.
The committee wants that the concession being given to senior citizens before Covid should be reviewed and at least the sleeper, AC-3 should be considered for immediate concession. Railways used to give concession in 54 categories before the Corona epidemic.
The Ministry of Railways has clarified that concession has been started in 11 categories including four categories of Divyang, patients and students, but there is no idea to give exemption to senior citizens at present. It should be noted that railways gives concession in rail fare ranging from 10 to 100 percent in more than 50 classes.
