Iran has started visa free service for Indians from last Sunday, February 4. However, the only condition is that the incoming passenger should arrive only by air travel. If someone comes by road, he will have to apply for a visa.

Islamic country Iran has started visa free entry for Indian tourists from Sunday 4th February. This was announced some time ago. Iran has allowed visa free entry for 33 countries including India. However, if an Indian goes to Iran by road then it is necessary to apply for a visa. There is visa free entry only for Indians traveling by air.

According to the report of the official Iranian News Agency (IRNA), this step of the Iranian government is to boost the number of tourists. Like Iran, Malaysia and Sri Lanka had also allowed visa free entry to Indians some time ago.

Iran’s Tourism Minister Ezatollah Zarghami told news agency IRNA that the purpose of this decision of the Iranian government is to attract more and more tourists as well as to fight the ‘Iranophobia’ seen against Iran on Western channels.

Iran had hosted the 18th India-Iran Foreign Office Consultations on November 26 last year, in which Indian Foreign Secretary Mohan Kwatra participated. The Ministry of External Affairs had issued a statement after the visit of the Foreign Secretary. The statement said that both sides have discussed further steps to be taken to promote trade and people-to-people relations between the two countries.

Shortly after this meeting in Iran, the news came that Iran had announced to make visa free for Indian citizens.
