This is being done to promote tourism. Earlier in September, Thailand had abolished the visa requirement for Chinese tourists. Chinese tourists come to Thailand in large numbers. At present, there is visa on arrival facility for Indians in Thailand.

According to government figures, a total of 22 million tourists came to Thailand from January to October 29. This contributed more than 25 billion dollars to the country’s economy. According to Chai Wacharonke, a spokesman for the Thai government, people coming from India and Taiwan can stay in Thailand for 30 days.

He said that India has emerged as the fourth largest source market for Thailand. About 12 lakh tourists from India have come to Thailand this year. Before India, the three biggest tourist source countries for Thailand are Malaysia, China and South Korea.

To compensate for lower exports

, according to Reuters, the tourist flow from India to Thailand remains strong. Airlines and hospitality chains are also targeting this market. The government’s target is that 2.8 crore tourists should come to the country this year. It is expected that this boom in the tourism sector will be able to compensate for the loss that has been caused due to the continued weak exports. Therefore, Thailand wants to attract more tourists by further lightening the visa requirements.
