IMD Rain Alert: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the southwest monsoon has covered the entire country six days ahead of schedule. The IMD said, “The southwest monsoon has advanced into the remaining parts of Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab today.

It covered the entire country on July 2, 2024 against the normal date of July 8.” The Meteorological Department had forecast on Monday that the country is expected to receive above average rainfall in July due to the monsoon gaining momentum. The monsoon reached Kerala and the Northeast ahead of schedule on May 30, but its pace remained slow in Maharashtra. Due to this, severe heat waves hit northwest India and dry conditions prevailed for long periods in West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.

What did IMD say in the latest report

According to the latest report released by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), a cyclonic circulation is formed over south-eastern Pakistan and the monsoon trough is north of its normal position at sea level. Due to this, moderate to heavy rainfall with thunderstorms is expected in north-west and central India from today to the next 4 days. At the same time, IMD has issued a warning regarding heavy to very heavy rains in some states.

IMD said in its report that heavy to very heavy rains are expected in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan Muzaffarabad between July 4 and 7. At the same time, heavy rains are also expected in Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Eastern Rajasthan from July 3 to 7. Heavy to very heavy rains are expected in western Rajasthan on the evening of July 3. Apart from this, heavy rains are expected in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh till July 4 i.e. Thursday.

There is a possibility of rain in these states as well

IMD has also said in the report that there will be heavy rains in the hilly state of Uttarakhand during July 3-7. Some rivers here are already in spate. According to the weather department forecast, there is a possibility of very heavy rainfall in western UP on July 6-7, and in eastern UP during July 5-7.

IMD further said that one cyclonic circulation is over northern Bangladesh and the other is located over the northeastern state of Assam. A trough is formed at lower tropospheric levels from MP to the cyclonic circulation over Assam. Due to this, there is a possibility of rain in some states for the next 5 days.

Apart from this, heavy rainfall is expected in most areas of Bihar, West Bengal, Sikkim, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura during the next 120 hours. Heavy rains may occur in Jharkhand during the next 36 hours and in Odisha on 6-7 July.

The report further stated that a cyclonic circulation persists over North Gujarat and adjoining areas in the mid-tropospheric levels. Due to this, light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning is expected in the southern states of Kerala, Lakshadweep, coastal Karnataka, Konkan, Goa, Gujarat. Light to moderate rainfall is also expected in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Karnataka. Apart from this, light to moderate rainfall is likely to occur sporadically over Marathwada, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Rayalaseema and Telangana during the next 120 hours.
