IMD Rain Alert! IMD has issued a warning of heavy rain, be careful while going out of the house for the next 3 days

IMD Prediction: A low-pressure weather system formed over the southwest Bay of Bengal brought heavy rains to coastal districts of Tamil Nadu and Chennai city on Wednesday. The system is expected to reach close to the coastal areas of the state and bring heavy rains to central and southern parts of the state.

Be careful while going out of your house till 16th November

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a yellow alert for heavy rains in 12 districts on November 12. The alert was extended to 17 districts for November 13 and 25 districts for November 15. The agency said in its bulletin on Wednesday that heavy rains are likely at isolated places over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry from November 13 to 16.

6 cm of rain fell on Tuesday

Chennai received heavy rains overnight on Tuesday. Many areas of Tamil Nadu’s capital Chennai like Adyar, Meenambakkam and Nandanam recorded 6 cm of rain. Schools and colleges in Chennai will remain open on Wednesday (November 13) and Thursday (November 14). The administration had ordered the closure of schools and colleges on Monday and Tuesday in view of heavy rains. However, in view of heavy rains, the state government declared a holiday in schools in Perambalur, Ariyalur and Cuddalore districts on Wednesday. Apart from this, schools and colleges have been closed in Mayiladuthurai district due to heavy rains.

Heavy rain is expected in many areas for the next 2 days

According to a Hindustan Times report, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are likely to receive heavy rainfall (more than 7 cm) at isolated places on Wednesday and Thursday. Thunderstorms and lightning are also expected in many parts of the state, with wind speeds reaching up to 55 kmph. The IMD has forecast heavy rains in select areas of the city on Wednesday, the intensity of which will gradually decrease on Thursday.

The government has made special preparations to deal with the impact of rain

Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin said that the state government is ready to deal with the impact of heavy rains and assured all arrangements in Chennai city. Udhayanidhi said, ‘Based on the study of the impact of rain in October, we have increased the number of motor pumps and volunteers. We have 1194 motor pumps, 152 super sucker machines. There has been an increase of 21 percent in the deployment of motors and machines as compared to October. The Tamil Nadu government is fully prepared for the rain.’
