IMD Rain Alert: Heavy rain, thunderstorm and storm on high alert from 17 to 21 February

Rain Alert: As the month of February has passed halfway, heat is being felt in many parts of the country. An increase in temperature has been recorded in North India, due to which heat is felt in the bright sunshine during the day, although there is still a slight cold in the morning and evening. Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that there is a possibility of rain in the plains as well as the hilly areas. It is being speculated that the cold may return again.

Temperatures continue to fluctuate

According to the Meteorological Department, the minimum and maximum temperatures are likely to increase by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius between February 17 and 19 in the plains of North-West India and Central India. At the same time, in the last 24 hours, a drop of 1 to 2 degrees Celsius has been recorded in the day temperature in eastern and peninsular India. The temperature in North-West India and Madhya Pradesh has increased by 1 to 3 degrees Celsius, due to which mild heat is being felt there.

Heat increased in western India, temperature dropped in eastern India

In the last 24 hours, the day temperature in western Rajasthan was recorded 5.1 degrees Celsius or more than normal, while in Punjab and eastern Rajasthan it was 3.1 to 5.0 degrees Celsius above normal. Temperatures also remained above normal in Karnataka, Western Himalayan region, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Goa and Kerala. On the contrary, night temperatures in Rajasthan, eastern Madhya Pradesh and Bihar have increased by 3 to 6 degrees Celsius. On the other hand, temperatures in Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Maharashtra and Telangana have dropped by 1 to 3 degrees Celsius.

Cyclonic activities active in Northeast

According to the Meteorological Department, a cyclonic circulation is formed 1.5 km above sea level over Nagaland and its adjoining areas. Due to its effect, heavy to very heavy rains are expected in north-eastern India between February 17 and 21. Snowfall may also occur at some high places. Thunderstorms and lightning are expected on February 17 and 19. Heavy rains may occur in Assam and Meghalaya on February 19. Apart from this, light to moderate rains are expected in Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Sikkim and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal for the next one week.

Effect of western disturbance

According to meteorologists, a new western disturbance will affect the western Himalayan region on February 17. Due to this, snowfall and rain may occur in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh between February 17 and 21. Rain and snowfall is expected in Uttarakhand on February 19 and 20. At the same time, there is a possibility of rain in Rajasthan from February 17 to 19 and in Punjab, Haryana, Western Uttar Pradesh on February 19 and 20.

Possibility of drop in temperature

According to IMD, the minimum temperature in northwest India may fall by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius in the next two days. The minimum temperature in Uttar Pradesh and central India may increase by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius in the next four days. There will be no major change in the minimum temperature in eastern India, while the temperature in western India may increase by 2-3 degrees Celsius in the next 4-5 days.

Dense fog warning

The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of dense fog in some areas. There is a possibility of dense fog in the morning in West Bengal and Sikkim (Sikkim Weather) till February 17. Recently, a minimum temperature of 7.7 degrees Celsius was recorded in Ambikapur, Chhattisgarh, which was the lowest in the plains of the country. The minimum temperature in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana remains between 6 to 10 degrees Celsius, while in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and other parts of east-west India it has been recorded between 10 to 15 degrees Celsius.

Delhi-NCR weather

An increase in temperature has been recorded in the last 24 hours in the capital Delhi and NCR. The maximum temperature in Delhi was between 25 to 27 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature was between 10 to 11 degrees Celsius. On Saturday, there were light clouds throughout the day, but the weather cleared by noon. Winds blew from the western direction at a speed of 20-22 km per hour. From 17 to 18 February, the sky is likely to remain cloudy in Delhi-NCR and there may be light fog in the morning.

Mixed effects of weather

The mixed effect of heat and cold is being seen in different parts of the country in mid-February itself. While the temperature is continuously rising in North and West India, mild cold persists in some areas of East and South India. Due to Western Disturbance and cyclonic activities, there is a possibility of rain and snowfall in North India and Northeast. There may be further changes in the weather in the coming days, due to which the temperature will increase in some places and cold may return in some places. This fluctuation will continue across the country, due to which people need to be cautious according to the weather.
