North, Central, East and Northeast India are yet to get relief from fog and severe cold. Due to western disturbance, heavy snowfall in the mountains and rain in some areas of the plains has disrupted life.
On Tuesday, most areas including Delhi-NCR remained cloudy, due to which more cold was felt. The Meteorological Department has issued yellow and orange alerts regarding fog and cold in 13 states for the next two days.
Alert for these states
IMD on Wednesday issued an orange alert for fog and cold day in the morning in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, while a yellow alert has been issued for frost in Himachal. At the same time, a yellow alert has also been issued for fog and cold at different places in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and Arunachal Pradesh.
35 tourists evacuated from Dodra Kwar in Himachal
After last night’s snowfall in the high altitude areas of Lahaul-Spiti, Kullu and Shimla in Himachal Pradesh, the problems of the people have increased. The administration evacuated 35 passengers stranded in seven vehicles on the Larot-Chanshal road in Dodra Kwar of Shimla district to safer places. These vehicles were stranded for about 12 hours in the snowstorm. They were evacuated safely on Monday night.
The movement of vehicles was affected between Fagu and Kufri on Shimla-Rampur National Highway from Monday night to Tuesday afternoon. In Narkanda too, the bus service was halted till afternoon due to snow accumulation on the road, due to which the common people had to face a lot of trouble. Trains were also delayed on Tuesday due to fog in the plain districts. There is a possibility of rain and snowfall in many areas of the state from January 11.
More than 300 flights affected from Delhi airport
Due to bad weather and low visibility, 300 flights were delayed in their arrival and departure from Delhi airport and more than 25 trains of Northern Railway were also late. The Meteorological Department has issued yellow and orange alerts regarding fog and cold in 13 states for the next two days. During this time, frost may also occur in some parts of Himachal Pradesh.
According to the latest data of the Meteorological Department, dense to very dense fog prevailed in different parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab and Haryana on Tuesday morning and visibility was less than 50 meters. At the same time, dense fog was seen in Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Chandigarh, Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand and visibility was recorded at 50 to 200 meters.
During this time, the visibility was zero at Jammu airport, Patiala, Amritsar, Azamgarh, Lucknow and Bareilly. Meanwhile, the visibility was 100 meters in Gorakhpur, 30 meters in Ambala, 40 meters in Rourkela, 50 meters in Bilaspur of Himachal, 100 meters each in Una and Mandi, 50 in Bhagalpur, 100 in Patna and 100 meters in Dehradun. The lowest temperature of 5 degrees Celsius was recorded in Gurdaspur in Punjab. The lowest minimum temperature of 6.9 degrees was recorded in Narnaul in Haryana. The minimum temperature of 2 degrees below zero was recorded in Tamil Nadu’s tourist place Ooty.
