Weather today: Delhi NCR as well as North Western and Northern states are covered by dense fog during late night and early morning hours. The situation in Delhi is worsening due to dense fog and air pollution. On Friday, the Meteorological Department said rains are likely due to a cyclonic circulation in the Bay of Bengal near the north Tamil Nadu coast.
The Meteorological Department said that in the next 24 hours there is a possibility of light to moderate rain with heavy rainfall red alert at some places in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and coastal Andhra Pradesh. Light to moderate rain is likely over Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Lakshadweep and South Telangana. Rain is predicted in North Punjab today. Pathankot, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Chandigarh, Karnal and Ambala will record minimum temperatures in the low digits for the first time this season. National capital Delhi will also see a drop in temperature. Between 18 and 20 November 2024, the minimum temperature may drop below 15°C. Light to moderate rain may occur over South Konkan and Goa and South Central Maharashtra.
The air of Delhi has become a gas chamber. According to the Meteorological Department, due to smog and continuously deteriorating air quality in Delhi, Grade-3 may apply on Friday. A UI of Delhi was recorded above 400 on Thursday. The Meteorological Department said that the temperature of Delhi has decreased during the last 24 hours. The maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded as 26 to 28 and 11 to 17 respectively. The maximum temperature was recorded 1 to 2 degrees below normal and the minimum temperature was recorded 1 to 3 degrees below normal.
According to the IMD website, a dense fog alert has been issued across North India. According to the Meteorological Department (Heavy rains), dense to extremely dense fog is likely to fall in many states of North India during the night and morning. The Meteorological Department said that orange alert of dense fog has been issued in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and West Rajasthan. Along with this, a yellow alert has been issued in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Bihar and Jharkhand for dense fog in the morning.
The Meteorological Department said that in the last 24 hours, the temperature has dropped in the northern part of the country including Delhi NCR. Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 26 to 28 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 11 to 17 degrees Celsius. The region recorded maximum temperature one to three degrees below normal and minimum temperature one to three degrees below normal. However, the weather remained hot in Delhi due to smog. Along with this, visibility also remained low on Thursday due to dense fog. Palam Airport recorded the lowest visibility of 300 to 700 meters.
A Western Disturbance has formed in the northwest. After its passage, the temperature is likely to drop significantly in northern hilly areas. As it reaches the snow-capped mountains and plains of north India, the temperature across the region may drop by 3-4 degrees Celsius by early next week.
