IMD Alert : Most parts of the country are in the grip of severe cold and cold wave. Dense fog has engulfed the states of North India, which has increased the chill further. Dense fog was seen this morning in states like Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh. At the same time, cold wave made people shiver in Delhi-NCR.

Weather may change from January 14

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a change in the weather from January 14. A new western disturbance is becoming active over Punjab, due to which there is a possibility of rain in more than 15 states of the country between January 14 and 16. Along with this, there may be dense fog at some places and snowfall in hilly areas. Snowfall has been predicted in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.

Last Sunday, the effect of cold winds was felt after snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh. At the same time, dense fog affected visibility in 18 states including Delhi, due to which 25 trains and many flights were delayed. The minimum temperature in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar was recorded between 4 to 5 degrees, while thunderstorms and hailstorms occurred in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.

Rain and hailstorm alert

According to the Meteorological Department, cyclonic circulation is active in Punjab and its surrounding areas. Due to this, there is a possibility of rain and hailstorm in northwest and central India. Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh may receive light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning.

Northeast India will also see a change in the weather. Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya and Nagaland may receive light rain on January 13. In South India, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Puducherry and surrounding areas are forecast to receive rain and lightning till January 16.

Cold wave and fog havoc

A new western disturbance will affect north-west India from the night of January 14. Due to this, there is a possibility of rain and snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan between January 16 and 18.

Apart from this, dense fog and cold wave alert has been issued in Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Odisha and northeastern states.

Warning for fishermen

The IMD has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea along and off south Sri Lanka coast , southwest Bay of Bengal , Gulf of Mannar and adjoining areas as strong winds and rough weather are likely over these areas.
