First Hydrogen Train Latest Update: A new era is about to begin in the history of Indian Railways. The first hydrogen train is ready to run in India.

Chennai-based Integral Coach Factory (ICF) General Manager Subba Rao has given the latest information on this train. He said that hydrogen train is going to be launched in India.

After the transition from diesel to electric engines, the Railway Ministry is preparing to introduce hydrogen-powered trains in India soon. The trains will start running from March 2025. With this, Indian Railways will enter a new era. The first hydrogen train has been allotted to the Delhi division of Northern Railways. This train will run on the 89 km long Jind-Sonipat section.

The train is being manufactured at the Chennai factory

He informed that India’s first hydrogen train is being built by Chennai-based Integral Coach Factory (ICF). The carbon emissions from the hydrogen train will be negligible. In such a situation, this train will be very beneficial in the direction of green transport technology. Railways has allocated Rs 2800 crore for 35 hydrogen trains.

India’s first hydrogen trainset is expected to be ready by 31 March 2025. India has recently built the world’s highest capacity hydrogen-powered train engine. Most countries have built hydrogen trains with a capacity of 500 to 600 horsepower (HP), while India has achieved great success by building an engine with a capacity of 1200 horsepower (HP) and will now run hydrogen trains.

Germany and China have made hydrogen train

Let us tell you that the hydrogen train will have 8 passenger coaches, in which more than 2500 people will be able to travel. 2 coaches will also be for hydrogen cylinders. The speed of this train will be 110 kilometers per hour. Its design has been prepared by Research, Design and Standard Organisation of Lucknow. Countries like Germany and China have already experimented with hydrogen trains.

Germany’s Coradia iLint hydrogen train is the world’s first passenger hydrogen train. This train reduces noise. It emits steam and water. This train can run at a speed of 140 kilometers per hour to 1000 kilometers per hour. This train has been on trial since 2018, but has not yet become a part of the railways. China also recently started Asia’s first hydrogen train service. This train travels 600 kilometers on a single tank. Its speed is 160 kilometers per hour.
