New Delhi. Lakhs of people travel by metro train every day in the country’s capital Delhi. Delhi Metro Railway Corporation provides many facilities for the convenience of its lakhs of passengers.
In this series, DMRC provided the facility of digital locker in January this year, which has been liked by the passengers. Since its launch in January till October, there has been an increase of more than 300 percent in the use of digital locker. Currently, digital locker facility is available at 228 metro stations. Let us tell you what these digital lockers are and how they are used.
What is DMRC’s digital locker
Digital lockers at metro stations in Delhi, also known as “smart boxes”, are a service provided by the DMRC that allows passengers to keep their valuables in a safe manner. Any passenger at a metro station can use the smart locker. Since its formal launch in January 2024, usage has seen a significant increase of over 300%, a DMRC official said.
According to a TOI report, the Delhi Metro is planning to install digital lockers at the rest of the metro stations soon. Currently, as customers are getting familiar with the use of smart lockers, they are using them to store their belongings on a temporary basis. These include students going to examination centers, where some personal belongings are banned, so they keep mobile-laptops and other valuable gadgets in the locker.
How to use digital locker
- -Passengers can rent lockers using the “Momentum 2.0” app on Android or iOS.
- -Login to the app using your mobile number
- -Choose the option to rent a locker
- -Select locker size, number of hours and preferred time slot and make payment
- -Enter the PIN on the locker screen
A huge increase in demand for smart lockers has been observed at Shivaji Stadium metro station. A Delhi Metro official said, “A similar trend of increased transactions has been observed at other metro stations as well.”
