IMD Rain Alert: The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for heavy rains in nine districts of Himachal Pradesh including Shimla, Solan and Mandi.
IMD in its forecast said, “We have issued Orange Alert for Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur, Mandi, Bilaspur, Kangra, Chamba, Hamirpur and Una districts during the next three days. Rains will continue here. If we get past 100 If we look at the record of days, this year will be the rainiest year. The rains have broken all previous records in the state so far.”
The IMD further said, “Himachal Pradesh has received light rains during the last 24 hours. There is a possibility of landslides and fog in the region. Monsoon will continue till September. Monsoon has received 530 mm of rain so far, which is very high. 70% rainfall has been received so far. Orange alert has been issued.”
State Government’s Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi said that the alert is on and all the people are ready in the field. He said, “Heavy rains have destroyed roads, drinking water and irrigation water supply schemes. More than Rs 6000 crore has been damaged. 188 people have lost their lives. 194 people have been injured. Around 6500 houses have been damaged.”
“Cloudbursts and floods are continuing in the state. Amidst the alerts, we are trying to be prepared,” he said. According to the State Disaster Management Authority, 176 people have died due to various reasons in the state since the onset of monsoon on June 24.
