The US last year launched a pilot program to renew H-1B visas domestically. In this, up to 20,000 eligible non-immigrant workers could renew their H-1B visas domestically. The US State Department made this announcement during PM Narendra Modi’s visit to the US in June 2023. This pilot project of America was successful. Therefore, now applicants will not need to return to their country for visa renewal.

Till now, Indians living in America had to come to India to get their visas renewed. For this, lakhs of rupees were spent on air tickets. Also, one had to wait for a long time to get the visa appointment confirmed. Now Indians will not have to go through this process.

The debate on H-1B visa

is going on in America. The supporters of the newly elected President Donald Trump are openly opposing it. At the same time, his close industrialist Elon Musk has supported the H-1B visa. Musk says that there are very few highly trained workers in America and if America has to keep progressing, then it is very important to bring skilled workers from abroad. Along with Musk, Indian-origin politician Vivek Ramaswamy also supported the H-1B visa. It is worth noting that India is also among the countries that benefit the most through the H-1B visa.

The demand for H-1B visa is the highest

The H-1B visa is one of the most sought-after non-immigrant visas, which allows US companies to employ foreign workers in specialty occupations that require theoretical or technical expertise. Technology companies rely on this visa to hire thousands of employees every year from countries like India and China.

Indians are the highest number of H1B visa holders.

India tops the list of H1B visa holders in the world. According to the US State Department, out of 3.2 lakh H-1B visa applications in 2022, 77 percent were received by Indians.
