The West Bengal government has taken a big decision. This decision of the government is being considered a big blow for gutkha-tobacco eaters. In fact, the state government has extended the ban on the manufacture, storage and sale of tobacco or nicotine-containing gutkha and pan masala products for one more year from November 7.
The state health department issued this order on October 24, citing public health concerns. According to the order, “The State Food Safety Commissioner has the right to ban the manufacture, storage, distribution or sale of any food item in the entire state for a period of one year in the interest of public health under Section 30 of the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006.”
