The National Movement for Old Pension Scheme (NMOPS), an organization of more than 14 lakh central and state government employees, has welcomed the government’s decision. Manjit Singh Patel, head of the Delhi unit of NMOPS, said, “This is good news for the eligible central government employees. We once again request the Central Government to amend the existing New Pension Scheme so that all Central Government employees can get the benefits of the old pension scheme.
Let us tell you that in 2004, the then Central Government had abolished the Old Pension Scheme and in its place the system of New Pension Scheme was implemented, but the employees’ organizations have been continuously opposing it. Because they believe that there are some anomalies in NPS. Now the government has given a big relief to a section of employees by giving them the option to choose OPS again.
