The government has taken one more step in its preparations to collect toll tax through GPS technology by eliminating toll plazas. Delhi-Jaipur Highway (NH-48) and Bengaluru-Mysore Expressway will be the first two highways where the GPS-based tolling system will be introduced to ensure that passengers pay the toll as per the number of kilometers travelled. After the implementation of GPS toll system, toll plazas on the highway will be removed and through this system, passengers will have to pay only the amount of distance they travel on the highway.
Now the tax will be the same as per the distance

There will be gradual expansion in the country
If sources are to be believed, this new GPS-based tolling system will be tried on different parts i.e. highways and it will be gradually expanded. Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari recently informed Parliament that the new system to make the NH network free from toll plazas will be operational by March.
Nitin Gadkari had said in Parliament, ‘Now I want to bring a GPS system. There will be no tolls. No toll means toll will not end. Will install GPS system in your vehicle. GPS system in the vehicle has also been made mandatory. There will be a record on GPS from where you entered and where you exited. And money will be deducted from your bank account. No one will stop you anywhere.
Government will also take care of user privacy
Speaking to reporters on Friday, Union Road Transport Secretary Anurag Jain also said that they are working on a plan to implement it, adding that the government is also paying attention to all issues including privacy concerns. On the major targets of the Highways Ministry, Anurag Jain said that the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway will be completed by December and the GPS system on the Delhi-Surat portion will be completed by April.
