Govt Declares December 27 as a Public Holiday…Details Here

There will be a government holiday in Punjab on Friday, December 27. This has been announced by Panjab University (PU). Panjab University has said that all the institutions affiliated to Panjab University in Punjab, including regional centers, rural centers, colleges and affiliated colleges will remain closed. Apart from this, there will be a holiday in the offices of all the institutions.

This decision has been taken in view of the martyrdom day of the four sons of the tenth Guru, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. December 27 was declared as National Child Martyrdom Day.

Every year, a Shaheedi Jor Mel is held at Sri Fatehgarh Sahib to pay homage to the martyrdom of the four Sahibzades of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj and Mata Gujri Ji. Devotees from far and wide come to pay obeisance on the martyrdom day. When Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji left Sri Anandpur Fort, his family went towards the Sirsa river and they got separated. The two elder Sahibzadey remained with Guru Ji and the two younger Sahibzadey remained with Mata Gujri Ji. The elder Sahibzadey was martyred during the battle of Chamkaur Sahib with the Mughals.

The younger sons were made to be walled up. In 1705, the Mughals captured the younger sons of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, 9-year-old Baba Zorawar Singh and 7-year-old Baba Fateh Singh Ji along with Mata Gujri near the village of Saheri and took them to Fatehgarh Sahib and there they were asked to convert to Islam, but the sons refused. On this, the Mughals kept Mata Gujri and both the sons in a cold tower for three days and two nights to torture them. The sons were made to be walled up. After the martyrdom of the younger sons, Mata Gujri Ji also sacrificed her life, and Mata Gujri Ji also became a martyr.
