In fact, GitLab Threat Intelligence had said in one of its reports that these extensions are being used by 3.2 million people worldwide and someone has hijacked them. Now with their help, hackers can steal user data and can also commit many other frauds. After this, Google has issued a warning.

Remove these extensions immediately

Google has released a list of affected extensions. These include Blipshot, Emoji (Emoji Keyboard), Color Changer for YouTube, Video Effects for YouTube and Audio Enhancer, Themes for Chrome and YouTube, Picture in Picture, Mic Adblock for Chrome, Super Dark Mode, Emoji Keyboard Emoji for Chrome, Adblocker for Chrome (NoAds), Adblock for You, Adblock for Chrome, Nimble Capture, KProxy, Page Refresh, Wistia Video Downloader and Watulkit.

Google has advised

that users who have these extensions in their browsers should immediately delete them and scan their systems with antivirus software. They have been removed from the Chrome Web Store, but users will have to manually delete them from the browser.
