Premium liquor shops will open again in Delhi. These shops will be relatively bigger, all major brands will be made available here. People will be able to go inside these shops and choose the brand of their choice.
The Excise Department has planned to open premium shops in shopping malls. A letter has been written in this regard to all the four government corporations selling liquor.
More than 40 shops were opened in various malls of Delhi
More than 40 such shops were opened in 2021. These shops were opened in various malls of Delhi. Liquor shops have been opened in 15 shopping malls in Delhi. But these are not at the level of premium shops. Four government corporations of Delhi are selling liquor together. These government corporations together are running 695 wine and beer shops.
710 liquor shops will be closed
More shops will open in the coming days. This will increase both sales and income. So far, liquor licenses of 950 hotels, clubs and restaurants have been renewed. By the end of this year, the number of liquor shops will be increased to 710. A senior officer of the Excise Department said that now only big liquor shops will be opened, so that many brands of liquor can be easily found at one place.
Record liquor sales before Diwali
Delhi set a record for pre-Diwali liquor sales, with over 3.87 crore bottles sold, earning the excise department a revenue of Rs 447.62 crore. This represents an increase of 1.18 crore bottles over last year.
According to official data, in the 15 days till October 30, a total of 3.87 crore bottles were sold from liquor shops run by the four corporations of the Delhi government, including 2.98 crore bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and 89.48 lakh bottles of beer.
He was carrying a huge stock of illegal liquor in his car, arrested
The police team of Wazirabad police station of North district has arrested a smuggler carrying a stock of illegal liquor in a car. The accused driver used to supply illegal liquor on the instructions of the car owner, for which he used to get Rs 15 thousand per month. Police have recovered a total of 12 cartons of illegal liquor from his possession and have also seized the car.
Police had laid a trap based on the information
North District Deputy Commissioner Raja Banthia said that on the late night of October 30, the police team was patrolling in the area of Timarpur. During patrolling at around 04:30 pm, information was received that a smuggler was going to bring illegal liquor in a car. On the information, the police team laid a trap on Pushta Road and stopped a Maruti Suzuki car from the spot. The car driver was identified as Shakeel Mohammad of Alipur.
Upon searching the car, 10 crates of illicit liquor, i.e. Falcon Orange Desi liquor meant for sale in Haryana and two crates of Imperial Style Blended Whiskey meant for sale in Chandigarh, were recovered which were seized by the police.
