Australia has started a special visa scheme for the people of India. Under this, 3,000 Indian graduates and youth starting their career will be given visas to live and work in the country. This is one of several steps announced in this week’s federal budget. From 1 November 2024, Australia is launching a new scheme named Mobility Arrangement for Talented Early-Professionals (MATES).
Mates is the word used for friend in Australia. Under this scheme, 3,000 Indian youth will be given two-year visas to live and work in Australia. Youth aged between 18 to 30 years will be eligible for this visa and will be able to come to Australia for studies, skill development and professional experience in specific fields. The fee for this has been kept at $390 i.e. approximately Rs 22,000, out of which $25 i.e. approximately Rs 1,500 will be the pre-application fee. The unity agreement opened the way. This plan was announced in February, which was agreed upon in the trade agreement between the two countries in 2022.

There was also a demand to give visas to the youth to live and work in Australia, which was accepted by Australia, but in the India-Australia unity agreement, India had made another appeal that its people. Should also be given backpackers visa like European countries. Australia’s backpackers visa, officially called Subclass 417 and Subclass 462 visa, was not available to Indians till now.
Many announcements for India: Many more facilities have also been announced for India in Australia’s budget. For example, the maximum period of visa for Indian businessmen has been increased from three years to five years. In the budget speech, Finance Minister Jim Chalmers said that extending the period will provide more time for traders to negotiate and cooperate. Every year Australia gives permanent visas to a certain number of people to live here.
This year this number has been fixed at one lakh 85 thousand, out of which one lakh 32 thousand visas will be given to skilled workers. Indians can also benefit greatly from this because a large number of people who get this visa every year are Indians. The number of Indians among the foreigners living and settling in Australia has been increasing rapidly in the last few years. The count till last June shows that more than eight lakh Indians are living in the country. This number had increased by more than one lakh between 2022 and 2023. This is the second largest group of people of foreign origin after England.
