Gold Hallmarking Rules to change: There can be a discussion in the meeting in the Consumer Affairs Ministry, in which a decision on tightening the hallmarking rules is possible. A decision can be taken to bring all jewelers under the ambit of hallmarking.
After implementing the rules of hallmarking on gold last year, the government is continuously expanding it. Now it is possible that all types of jewelers in the country may be brought under the ambit of hallmarking. Till now, these rules are applicable only to jewelers with annual turnover of less than Rs 40 lakh, but now its scope may increase soon.
But there is information that this matter can be discussed in the meeting in the Consumer Affairs Ministry, in which a decision on tightening the hallmarking rules is possible. A decision can be taken to bring all jewelers under the ambit of hallmarking. It is possible that jewelery like Kundan and Jadau may also come under the scope of hallmarking.
Let us inform you that the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has made six-digit ‘alphanumeric’ HUID mandatory for hallmarked gold jewelery from April 1, 2023. Now only 6 digit Alphanumeric Hallmarking is valid. Without this, gold and jewelery will not be sold. Hallmarking with 4 digits has been completely stopped.

These include 17 districts of Andhra Pradesh, 8 districts of Assam, 23 districts of Bihar, Chandigarh, 4 districts of Chhattisgarh, 8 districts of Delhi, 2 districts of Goa, 25 districts of Gujarat, 18 districts of Haryana, 3 districts of Himachal Pradesh,
5 districts of Jammu and Kashmir, 6 districts of Jharkhand, 20 districts of Karnataka, 13 districts of Kerala, 14 districts of Madhya Pradesh, 28 districts of Maharashtra, 9 districts of Odisha, 19 districts of Puducherry, Punjab, 19 districts of Rajasthan, These include 19 districts of Tamil Nadu, 12 districts of Telangana, 2 districts of Tripura, 31 districts of Uttar Pradesh, 5 districts of Uttarakhand and 21 districts of West Bengal.
