The government has ensured that under this scheme, support is provided from birth to higher education to meet the needs of the girl child. The total assistance amount of Rs 15,000 has been divided into six installments, which are sent directly to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer).

With an aim to empower girls economically and provide them better opportunities for education, health and social development, the Uttar Pradesh government has launched the “Mukhya Mantri Kanya Sumangala Yojana” (MKSY). This scheme is a major initiative for girls in the state, which provides financial assistance at various stages of their lives.

Benefits and Structure of Financial Assistance under Kanya Sumangala Scheme

Financial assistance under this scheme is divided into six phases:

First stage: Assistance of Rs 2,000 is given on the birth of a girl child.

Second stage: An amount of ₹ 1,000 is given on completion of all vaccinations within 1 year.

Third stage: Assistance of ₹ 2,000 is provided for admission to class 1.

Fourth stage: An amount of ₹ 2,000 is given on admission to class 6.

Fifth stage: A grant of ₹ 3,000 is given on admission to class 9. Sixth

stage: Assistance of ₹ 5,000 is given on admission to a graduation or diploma course of a daughter.

Application Process and Eligibility Conditions

To avail the benefit of this scheme, the annual income of the family should not exceed ₹ 3 lakh. The beneficiary family should be a permanent resident of Uttar Pradesh, and each family can apply for a maximum of two daughters. The online application process is available on the portal www.mksy.up.gov.in , which asks for necessary documents like Aadhaar card, income certificate, and bank account information.

Objectives and Social Impact of the Scheme

The objective of the Mukhyamantri Kanya Sumangala Yojana is to reduce social discrimination against girls and ensure financial security for their education and health. This scheme strengthens the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign. This scheme is a big step towards improving the living standards of girls as well as gender equality in the society. This has not only brought about a change in the mindset towards girls but has also helped in securing their future.
