Gandhi Jayanti speech: Preparations to celebrate the birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi have started with full enthusiasm in the country. Every year in India, 2 October is celebrated as Gandhi Jayanti.
Mahatma Gandhi, who played an important role in giving India independence from the British by following the path of truth and non-violence, was born on 2 October 1869 in Porbandar, Gujarat. Bapu’s thoughts regarding truth and non-violence have always guided not only India but the entire world and will continue to do so in future also.
In honor of his thoughts, International Day of Non-Violence is also celebrated every year on 2 October. This time on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, many cleanliness related programs have been planned across the country. With the efforts of the Central Government, Swachhta Hi Seva campaign is being run with full enthusiasm.
During his recent ‘Mann Ki Baat’ address, PM Modi appealed to all citizens to pay tribute to the Father of the Nation with ‘Swachhanjali’. This time ‘one date, one hour, together’ campaign will be run. PM Modi has appealed to all citizens to donate 1 hour for cleanliness on October 1 at 10 am. People can join the cleanliness campaign in their street, neighbourhood, any park, river, lake or any public place.

Today is 2nd October and not only the whole of India, but many countries of the world are celebrating Gandhi Jayanti. Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi was born on 2 October 1869 in Porbandar, Gujarat. His full name was Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. Later, he started being called Bapu among the people.
Bapu played the most important role in liberating the country from the clutches of the British. He forced the British to kneel many times on the basis of his principle of truth and non-violence. The whole world saluted his principle of non-violence, which is why the whole world celebrates today as International Non-Violence Day. Mahatma Gandhi’s thoughts have always guided not only India but the entire world and will continue to do so in future also.
Due to the greatness of Mahatma Gandhi, his works and thoughts, October 2 has been given the status of a national festival like Independence Day and Republic Day. Gandhiji believed that you can never get your rights by following the path of violence. He adopted the path of Satyagraha to protest.
Mahatma Gandhi studied law in London. After obtaining a barrister degree from London, he did not consider it appropriate to become a big officer or a lawyer, but dedicated his entire life to the country. In his life he organized many movements against the British rule. He always kept fighting for the rights of the people. Champaran Satyagraha, Non-Cooperation Movement, Dandi Satyagraha, Dalit Movement, Quit India Movement were some of their major movements which played a big role in weakening the foundation of the British Empire.
Gandhiji continuously raised his voice against the evils like untouchability prevalent in the Indian society. He wanted to create a society in which all people would have equal status because everyone was created by the same God. They should not be discriminated against. He always strived for women empowerment. He inspired millions of Indians and people around the world to fight for their rights and freedom through non-violence.
Friends! It is true that we all respect Gandhiji a lot. But all his dreams will be fulfilled when we follow his ideals like peace, non-violence, truth, equality and respect for women.
So today we should resolve to implement his thoughts in our lives. Should join the government’s cleanliness campaign. One should take a pledge to keep the area around him clean and buy things made of Khadi.
