Now the government has decided to close it. All the district supply officers of the state have given orders in this regard.

You will have to pay for wheat and rice, the free ration available under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana will be available by September. In some media reports, it is being said to take it forward. But now after the closure of the free ration scheme of the Yogi government in UP, the card holders will have to pay for wheat-rice and other materials.

The rules will be applicable from the month of September, card holders will have to pay Rs 2 per kg for wheat and Rs 3 per kg for rice. This change has been implemented from July. Ration distribution in UP is running late by two months. In such a situation, the beneficiaries will have to pay in lieu of the ration for the month of September.

15 crore people will be affected

The Yogi government had earlier extended the free ration scheme started during the Covid epidemic till March 2022. After returning to power in March, it was extended for another three months. At present, the number of ration card holders in UP is 3.59 crore. In this, there are 3.18 crore household ration card holders and 40.92 lakh Antyodaya card holders. The total dependents on both types of ration cards are 14.94 crores.

Till now, 3 kg rice and 2 kg wheat are given to eligible household card holders. At the same time, 14 kg wheat and 21 kg rice are given to Antyodaya card holders. The government was giving this ration free of cost till now from Covid. But now you have to pay Rs 2 per kg for wheat and Rs 3 per kg for rice.
