The flying taxi is going to be implemented in the country soon. In fact, Chennai-based startup Eplane is all set to launch its first flying taxi prototype in June. This information was given by the company’s CEO Satyanarayana Chakraborty.

Participating in a panel discussion on “Deeptech and Artificial Intelligence” during the News18 Rising India Summit in New Delhi, Chakraborty said, “We hope to have our prototype (of the flying taxi) by June. The next prototype will come by the end of this year and the third next year. However, it will take 2 years to bring this facility to the people.”

Satyanarayana Chakraborty, who is also a professor of aerospace engineering at IIT Madras, said, “We are comparing ourselves with China. China has progressed very rapidly in the last 20 years and they have even surpassed the West.” He added that we will have to think and do something like deeptech, and it will be very beneficial for India. Satyanarayana Chakraborty, who is also a co-founder of 6 deeptech startups, is optimistic that India will make its mark in this ecosystem by the end of this decade.

What is a flying taxi?

Actually, a flying taxi is a taxi service in which one can reach from one place to another through air. Air taxis are usually powered by electric or hybrid engines and have vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) capabilities. This taxi service is a smart way to reduce traffic in cities.
