Fastag Rule Change from 17 february 2025: NPCI has implemented new rules for FASTag. If the tag remains blacklisted for 60 minutes before reading the tag at the toll plaza or 10 minutes after reading, then payment will not be made. This rule gives users 70 minutes to improve their FASTag status.
FASTag balance validation rules are being implemented by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). The new FASTag rules are coming into effect from 17 February 2025. In this, the user needs to be more active about his FASTag status. If this is not done, FASTag payment may get stuck.
What are the new rules of FASTag
NPCI has issued a rule on January 28, 2025, according to which, from February 17, 2025, if the tag is blacklisted for more than 60 minutes before the tag is read at the toll plaza. Or if the tag is blacklisted for at least 10 minutes after reading, then payment will not be made. This new rule gives users a window of 70 minutes to correct their FASTag status.
How will the change in FASTag rules affect users?
The change in FASTag rules will have a direct impact on the user. Now recharging a blacklisted FASTag at the toll booth at the last moment can harm you. If your FASTag is already blacklisted when you reach the toll, then recharging immediately will not result in payment.
You can understand it like this.
- If your FASTag is blacklisted before you reach the toll, and remains blacklisted even after the tag is read, payment will not go through and you will be charged double the toll.
- If your Fastag is blacklisted, but you recharge the tag within 60 minutes of its reading or within 10 minutes of its reading, then your payment will be received and you will be charged the normal amount.
- If your Fastag is blacklisted and you cross the toll, you will be charged double. But if you cross the toll within 10 minutes after the tag is read, you will be charged double.
- If you recharge in , you can request for penalty refund. You will not be charged any extra charge.
- This means that you should maintain your Fastag balance and resolve KY related issues. Do not recharge at the last moment.
How to check blacklist status
