New FasTag Rule: The Maharashtra government has decided to make the use of FASTag mandatory to make the entire system cashless. If someone does not use FASTag, he can pay the toll through cash, card or UPI, but for this he will have to pay double.

Most people use FASTag to avoid long queues at toll plazas. To make the FASTag process easier, the government also changes its rules from time to time. Once again, some updates have been made in its rules, but this update will be applicable only to users driving in Maharashtra. Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation has recently informed that FasTag will be made mandatory at all toll plazas from April 1, 2025. Its purpose is to streamline toll payments and reduce traffic jams at toll booths.

What is Fastag?

If you don’t know about it, then let us tell you that FastTag is an electronic tag, which is installed on the front glass of the vehicle. We have to recharge it from time to time, just like we do our mobile phones. Whenever a vehicle passes through the toll plaza, the machine installed at the toll scans the tag on the vehicle, and the money is automatically deducted from your recharged wallet. After installing this tag on the vehicle, you do not need to stop at the toll and get a slip.

New Fastag rule

The use of FASTag will become mandatory in Maharashtra from April 1. This rule will be applicable on all toll plazas in Maharashtra. The Maharashtra government has taken this step to make the entire system cashless. This will reduce traffic jams on toll plazas. This cashless system will be made mandatory on all toll plazas in Maharashtra from next month.

Double toll payment for not using FASTag

If someone does not use FASTag, he can pay toll through cash, card or UPI, but for this he will have to pay double. To make people aware of this change, MSRDC has issued a public notice.

According to media reports, the new rule will not apply to school buses, light motor vehicles and state transport buses. All these vehicles have been exempted from Fastag at five specific places entering Mumbai. These places include toll plazas of Mulund West, Mulund East, Airoli, Dahisar and Vashi.

Note that the FASTag system will be strictly enforced on major highways like Mumbai-Pune Expressway, Old Mumbai-Pune Highway and Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway.

Where can you buy Fastag?

You can buy Fastag at toll plazas, bank branches, online platforms (such as bank websites, digital wallets, payment apps) and through the MyFASTag app. After buying Fastag, you can easily recharge your Fastag through PhonePe, Google Pay, Amazon Pay and many other payment apps.
