Fake currency: The business of fake notes in India is not taking the name of stopping. These days there is a glut of fake notes of Rs 500 and Rs 2000 in the market. According to RBI data, fake notes have increased by 54.6% compared to the previous financial year.

As such, the government had decided to replace the old high notes with new notes to curb fake currency. But despite this, the fake currency in the market has not been completely curbed. In such a situation, we are telling you how to identify the original notes of 2000 and 500 rupees.

According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report, since 2016, law enforcement agencies across the country have seized counterfeit notes worth Rs 245.33 crore. According to this report, the highest amount of counterfeit notes worth Rs 92.17 crore was seized in 2020, while the lowest amount of Rs 15.92 crore was seized in 2016. According to the report, in the year 2021, fake notes worth Rs 20.39 crore were seized, while fake notes worth Rs 34.79 crore were seized in 2019, Rs 26.35 crore in 2018 and Rs 55.71 crore in 2017.

According to the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) annual report published in May 2022, the number of fake Rs 500 notes detected by banks in the financial year 2021-22 more than doubled to 79,669 as compared to the previous year. During the year 2021-22, 13,604 fake notes of Rs 2,000 were caught, which was 54.6 percent more than the previous financial year. After a decline in the year 2020-21, the total number of counterfeit notes detected by banks increased to 2,30,971 from 2,08,625 in the previous financial year.

This is how to identify the 2000 note

The base color of the 2000 note is magenta and its size is 66 mm by 166 mm. There is a picture of Mahatma Gandhi on the front of the note and Mangalyaan on the back. On keeping the note in front of the light, 2000 will be seen written here. When placed in front of the eye at an angle of 45 degrees, 2000 will be seen written here. 2000 will be written in Devanagari.

There is a picture of Mahatma Gandhi in the centre. RBI and 2000 are written in 5 small letters. There is a security thread with India, RBI and 2000 written on it. The color of this thread changes from green to blue when the note is bent slightly.

Guarantee Clause, Governor’s signature, Promise Clause and RBI logo are on the right side. Here is Mahatma Gandhi’s photo and electrotype (2000) watermark. The numbers written on the top left side and bottom right side increase from left to right. The color of the number 2000 written here changes. Its color turns from green to blue. Ashoka pillar is on the right side. The rectangular box on the right side in which 2000 is written. There are seven bleed lines on the right and left side which are rough.
