What is Government Employees Retirement Age: A social media post is going viral on social media platforms in which it is being claimed that the Government of India has increased the retirement age of employees.

However, is this true? We will give you the correct information about this viral claim. The post claims that the Government of India has increased the retirement age of central government employees to 62 years.

However, this claim was found to be false as the Government of India has not taken any such decision. The Press Information Bureau (PIB) of the Government of India investigated the viral claim and clarified that the post going viral on the internet is fake.

PIB said in a post on X that the central government has not taken any such decision to increase the retirement age of central employees.

Will the retirement age be increased further?

In August 2023, the government confirmed in the Lok Sabha that there is no proposal under consideration to change the retirement age of central government employees. Union Minister Jitendra Singh said on August 9 that there is no proposal under consideration to change the retirement age of central government employees. In a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, Singh said that 122 government officials have been given compulsory retirement in the last three years under various provisions of the service rules.

The Minister of State for Personnel said, ‘As per the updated information/data available on the Probity Portal [till 30.06.2023] provided by various Ministries/Departments/Cadre Controlling Authorities [CCA], the provisions of Fundamental Rules (FR)-56(J)/similar provisions have been invoked against a total of 122 officers during the last three years [2020-2023], including the current year.

Singh said, “There is no proposal under consideration to change the retirement age of central government employees.” He also said that the review process under FR 56 (J)/similar provisions is aimed at bringing efficiency and strengthening the administrative machinery.
