7th Pay Commission : Union Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh said on Wednesday that the government is not considering any proposal to change the retirement age of its employees.

In a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, Singh also said that the government has no policy to eliminate vacancies created by the retirement of employees. Singh said, “The government has no proposal under consideration to change the retirement age of government employees.”

Demand for change in retirement age

Asked if any government employees’ union or organisation has demanded a change in retirement age, the minister said, “No formal proposal has been received from the employees from the National Council (Joint Consultative Mechanism).” On the question of details of retirement age of employees of the Centre and various state governments and the reasons for disparity in their retirement age, Singh said, “No such data is maintained centrally in the government as the subject comes under the state list.”

Additional pension for the elderly as the need increases

Apart from this, in response to another question, the Center said on Wednesday that additional pension is given to old pensioners because it is appropriate in view of their needs, especially health-related condition. Union Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh said in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha that additional pension is automatically paid to the pensioner / family pensioner as per the requirement by the pension disbursing authorities / banks.

According to the minister, the government has approved 20 percent additional pension on attaining the age of 80 years, 30 percent on attaining the age of 85 years, 40 percent on attaining the age of 90 years, 50 percent on attaining the age of 95 years and 100 percent on attaining the age of 100 years, as per the recommendation of the Sixth Central Pay Commission (CPC). He said that with age, especially the needs related to health increase, so provision of additional pension has been made.
