Layoff News: The blow of layoffs continues in the new year as well. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin is going to face large scale layoffs. Blue Origin CEO Dave Limp has announced that 10 percent of the company’s employees will be laid off.
This decision has been taken to reduce costs and speed up the launch of rockets. This decision of the company will hit about 1400 employees. Its workforce is about 14 thousand employees. Most of these employees are in Florida, Texas and Washington in the US.
Layoffs announced in a 10 minute meeting
This layoff in the company is happening at a time when Blue Origin has started the production of its giant New Glenn rocket. After a long wait, its first launch took place last month. Dave Limp said in a 10-minute meeting with the employees that there is no easy way to explain it. He said that there is no doubt that the company has achieved many successes in the last few months, but considering the beginning of the company and where the company wants to reach in the next three to five years, this success seems less. In such a situation, the company has decided to layoff to reduce costs and speed up the launch of the rocket.
Layoffs help Blue Origin compete with Elon Musk’s SpaceX
Blue Origin’s CEO says the layoffs will increase the manufacturing of New Glenn and speed up the rocket’s launch speed. This will fulfill two important goals of the company, which are very important in competing with Elon Musk’s SpaceX and its Falcon 9. Many employees say that Limp has been tasked with streamlining Blue Origin’s many business units, from space stations to lunar landers for NASA, and focusing more on New Glenn. However, in conversation with news agency Reuters, some employees also say that the atmosphere of the company has deteriorated under Limp’s leadership and due to the speed at which he is moving forward, many people are looking for jobs elsewhere.
