Electricity Price: Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (UPERC) may announce the revised electricity rate by the first week of June. Sources gave this information.
The new electricity tariff introduced by the UP Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) has proposed a hike of up to 23 per cent for various categories of customers. For urban domestic customers, the corporation has proposed a hike of around 18 per cent. The commission has not revised the electricity rates since 2018-19.
Hearing held in Noida on 28 April
UPERC has completed public hearing in all distribution companies. The last hearing was held in Noida on 28 April. Sources said that the commission will now send a report of public objections to various discoms for their response. Thereafter, the Commission will analyze the tariff taking into account all the comments of the stakeholders before formally announcing the tariff.
Expected to take a month
It is expected to take a month, said an official. As expected, the commission will be able to announce the tariff by the first week of June. Sources said that UPPCL has highlighted the rising operating cost of thermal power plants. The cost of coal used here has increased. UPPCL has not only proposed an increase in the electricity unit charge, but has also increased the fixed charge from 10 to 15 percent.
Awadhesh Verma, president of the Uttar Pradesh State Power Consumption Council, who is one of the petitioners in the power tariff case, said the association attended all the hearings. He said, UPPCL needs to solve the issue of more than 25 thousand crore rupees of consumers.
