Electricity meters of 1.43 crore consumers will be replaced with smart meters. A total of Rs 14,037 crore will be spent on this project and it will be completed in 27 months.
Smart meters will have both prepaid and postpaid facilities, which will give consumers a discount of 15 paise per unit. 47.63 lakh meters will be installed in Jaipur Discom in Rajasthan, which will cost Rs 3,138 crore.
This project is planned to be completed in 27 months, so that subsidy can be obtained from the central government. The special thing is that both postpaid and prepaid options will be available for consumers in smart meters. Under the prepaid option, consumers will be able to recharge as per their need, and such consumers will get a discount of 15 paise per unit in the bill. Additionally, consumers will also get the facility to monitor the meter from anywhere through remote control.
How many meters will be installed in which discom:
Jaipur Discom: 47.63 lakh meters, cost Rs 3,138 crore
Ajmer Discom: 54.32 lakh meters, cost Rs 3,663 crore
Jodhpur Discom: 40.80 lakh meters, cost Rs 2,877 crore
Smart meters will provide both postpaid and prepaid facilities
Pre-paid recharge option: Consumers will be able to get electricity as per the amount they recharge as per their requirement.
Daily electricity consumption information: Consumers will be able to easily access information about their daily electricity consumption and expenditure.
Monthly Consumption Planning : Smart meters will enable consumers to plan their monthly electricity usage.
Instant notification in case of supply failure: If the power supply to the home is cut off, the notification will be sent directly to the control room.
Alert on mobile when load increases: When the power supply load is high, consumers will be informed by sending a message on their mobile.
