The Income Tax Department keeps introducing new features to help the taxpayers. In this new session of return filing, the Income Tax Department has introduced another new feature. This feature will enable taxpayers to track the notices received from the department in a single click.

Facility will be available here on the portal
This new feature of the Income Tax Department has been added to the e-Proceedings section. By clicking on this new tab, users will be able to track all pending tax proceedings at one place. All the letters and notices received by the taxpayer from the Income Tax Department will be available in this single tab. Search option has also been given to search them.

This information given in FAQ

The Income Tax Department has also explained about this new feature in the FAQ. The department has said about this in the FAQ that the e-Proceeding tab available on the e-filing portal is a simple way to electronically respond to all notices, intimations and letters issued by the Income Tax Department.

The communications that will be available in this new tab of the Income Tax Portal are as follows:

  • Defective notice under section 139(9)
  • Information under Section 245 – Against Adjustment of Demand
  • Prima facie adjustment under section 143(1)(a)
  • Suo-Moto Correction under Section 154
  • Notices issued by the Assessing Officer or any other income tax authority
    Communications seeking clarification
  • Additionally, a registered user can add or remove an authorized representative to respond to any notice/information/letter listed above

The tax department has this hope
The Income Tax Department says that this new facility introduced on the portal will reduce the compliance burden on the taxpayer. They will not need to go to the Income Tax office for every work. Apart from this, it will be convenient for the taxpayers to keep an eye on various other communications sent by the department including income tax notices.
