Nirmala Sitharaman: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that today India has set a global standard in the matter of digitization, especially for payments. He said that this has not only helped the country in the fight against Kovid-19 and its economic side effects, but has also increased the confidence that India’s growth story is yet to go ahead.
Addressing students at the John Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, Sitharaman said, “There was a time when India looked at global standards, global ideals and we used to say that we have to reach that level, learn how to do it.” . Even today there are many such areas where we have to learn a lot and work according to the standards.
He further said, ‘But looking at the digital side, whether it is payment, identity, health, education, modalities of compliance requirements, India has actually set standards in these. We have really set standards in terms of digital economy, its systems and platforms and this is a confidence booster for India.
The Finance Minister said, ‘Our economy is performing well, so it is because of the confidence that we have got from what happened in the last two years, probably people believe so. That’s why I think the economic revival continues unabated. He said that the emphasis placed on digitization between 2014 and 2019 helped in battling the economic crisis after Kovid-19 and due to this, help and relief could be given immediately during the lockdown.
