Know the flood update

According to the flood related bulletin, the water level on the old rail bridge reached 204.63 meters at 1 pm on Monday. On Tuesday, between 10 am and 12 noon, the water level is expected to cross the danger mark of 205.33 meters and rise to 205.5 meters. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said in a press conference that there is no possibility of a flood-like situation in Delhi, but the government is ready to deal with any situation.

Delhi government issued a warning

The Delhi government had issued a flood warning on Sunday and asked people living on the banks of the river to be vigilant. Kejriwal said that the evacuation of people from the low-lying areas will start as soon as the river crosses the 206-metre mark. Officers have been instructed to be vigilant and take necessary action in sensitive areas. Quick response teams and boats have been deployed.

The Delhi government has set up 16 control rooms, including a central control room, to monitor flood-prone areas and the water level of the Yamuna. It has been raining continuously for the last three days in North West India. “Heavy to very heavy” rainfall was recorded in many areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.

What the Meteorological Department said

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Delhi recorded 153 millimeters (mm) of rain in the last 24-hour period till 8.30 am on Sunday, the most in a single day in July since 1982. It rains the most. Delhi received 107 mm of rain in the last 24 hours till 8.30 am on Monday.

Due to heavy rains, there was waterlogging in many parks, markets etc. of the city and there was heavy jam on the roads. The Delhi government had on Monday announced the closure of all schools due to incessant rains and directed government officials to remain on duty, canceling Sunday’s leave. The catchment area of ​​the Yamuna river system includes parts of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi. The water level of the river had crossed the danger mark twice in September last year.
