The Union Personnel Ministry has announced different working hours for its employees in view of the rising air pollution in Delhi. Employees have also been asked to pool vehicles and use public transport to reduce pollution from vehicles.
The order issued by the Union Personnel Ministry on Thursday said that these measures can be adopted by ministries / departments / organizations as per their functional requirements. It should be ensured that it should not adversely affect efficiency and productivity in any way. The order said that in view of the severity of air pollution in Delhi, various ministries, departments and organizations of the Central Government can keep their offices open from 9 am to 5:30 pm and from 10 am to 6:30 pm.

The order said that there will be two timings in offices. The first timing will be from 9 am to 5:30 pm and the second timing will be from 10 am to 6:30 pm. It said that officers/employees using private vehicles should be encouraged to pool vehicles and use public transport to reduce vehicular pollution. After a week of severe pollution levels, Delhi’s air quality has improved slightly but it is still in the very poor category. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), at 9 am on Thursday (November 21), the Air Quality Index (AQI) in the national capital was recorded at 376.
