Delhi Govt’s order to hotels, clubs, bars and restaurants – Do not serve liquor without verifying age

The Delhi government has directed operators of hotels, clubs and restaurants in the city serving liquor to verify the age of customers through age certificates.

If underage youth come to drink or buy alcohol in Delhi, they will have to show their age certificate. The rule of not serving alcohol to youth under 25 years of age will now be strictly enforced. The Excise Department has told all hotel, bar, restaurant, shop operators who have taken liquor license to check the virtual ID in DigiLocker or verify them with physical ID to confirm the age of the youth. The license of establishments selling or serving alcohol to youth under 25 years of age can also be cancelled.

Prohibition on sale of liquor to persons below 25 years of age

In fact, there is a ban on selling or serving alcohol to youth under the age of 25 in Delhi. Despite this, the Excise Department was receiving complaints about teenagers being served alcohol in bars, hotels and restaurants. The department formed teams and conducted surprise inspections in hotels, clubs and restaurants. During this, underage youth were found drinking alcohol.

Orders of Excise Department

On enquiry, he claimed that he had completed 25 years of age. He was not found to have any proof that could prove his age. After such cases came to light, they were reviewed and orders were issued by the Excise Department.

Alcohol cannot be sold to youth under 25 years of age

According to the order issued by the department, hotel, restaurant, bar and liquor shop operators will not be able to sell or serve liquor to youth below 25 years of age without confirming their age through government identity card.

Such verification must be done

The age of the customers will not be verified from the virtual ID shown on their mobile phone. There is a possibility of presenting fake or edited digital ID. However, the certificates shown in the government app DigiLocker will be valid, as these certificates have already been verified. The department says that if there is no age certificate in DigiLocker, then verification will be done from the physical ID.

The campaign will run

The Excise Department has also decided to launch a campaign to stop the use of drugs. Under this, license holders have been asked to take an e-oath on www.pledge.mygov.in/fightagainstdrugabuse and print its certificate. Paste this certificate at prominent places in clubs, restaurants, hotels. Do not use drugs in your premises and do not allow anyone to use them. Employees should also be made aware of this campaign.
