Delhi airport sees 7 flight diversions due to bad weather

Delhi air pollution: The national capital Delhi witnessed dense fog for the first time this season on Wednesday (November 13). Due to dense fog, visibility became zero at Delhi airport.

An official said that due to low visibility, routes of some flights were changed. India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that at 8:30 am, visibility was recorded at zero meters at Indira Gandhi International Airport, while the runway visual range at various places was between 125 and 500 meters.

The IMD said that very dense fog started to set in around 5.30 am on Wednesday, leading to haze in various parts of the national capital. “A thick layer of fog engulfed Delhi by morning, reducing the visibility to 125 metres in some areas,” a Met official told PTI.

Meanwhile, the air quality remained in the ‘very poor’ category for the 15th consecutive day. Its level was 366 at 9 am. According to the Central Pollution Control Board, two monitoring stations including Anand Vihar and Aya Nagar reported air quality in the ‘severe’ category. The Meteorological Department has predicted light fog during the day and the maximum temperature will be around 32 degrees Celsius.

Route of 7 flights changed

Flight operations were affected in the national capital on Wednesday morning due to low visibility. At least seven flights arriving at Delhi airport had to be rerouted. Several flights were delayed. The weather department said that very dense fog started to cover Delhi around 5.30 am and visibility reduced in various parts of the city.

An official said that due to bad weather, six flights have been diverted to Jaipur since 7 am. While one was diverted to Lucknow. Another official said that the operation of some flights has been delayed. At present, the visibility is improving. Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) is one of the busiest airports in the country.
