Recently, Minister of State for Finance Chandrima Bhattacharya while presenting the budget had announced a 3 percent increase in dearness allowance. DA in West Bengal is six percent of the basic salary.

Their demand is that state government employees should get 42 percent dearness allowance at par with central employees. Opposition parties in the state are seen standing with the protesting employees.
Mamta Banerjee had said that the salary of central employees is different from the employees working under the state government. He said that the state government employees get leave on different occasions. Banerjee also said that West Bengal is a state which still gives pension (to retired people). The government spends 20,000 crores on this.
