7th pay commission latest: The Tamil Nadu government has announced a 3% increase in dearness allowance (DA) for government employees and teachers. This increase is effective from July 1.
16 lakh government employees, teachers, pensioners and family pensioners are expected to benefit from the Tamil Nadu government’s announcement. After this increase, the Tamil Nadu government will have to incur an additional annual expenditure of ₹1931 crore. Let us tell you that the central government has also increased the DA of its employees by 3%.

Earlier, the central government had increased the dearness allowance by 3%. It will be effective from July 1, 2024. This will benefit more than one crore employees and pensioners before Diwali. Earlier in March, the government had increased DA/DR by four percentage points to 50 percent from January 1, 2024. The latest increase will put an additional burden of Rs 9,448 crore on the government treasury. Let us tell you that the central government has about 49.18 lakh employees and 64.89 lakh pensioners.
Many states have also increased
Different states of the country have also increased dearness allowance. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai announced a 4% increase in dearness allowance of state government employees. With this, dearness allowance in the state will now be 50% of the basic salary. Employees will get the benefit of dearness allowance from October 1. State government employees were demanding DA equal to the Center for a long time, which has been approved by Chief Minister Sai.
The Sikkim government has also increased the dearness allowance of its employees by four percent. The Himachal Pradesh government has also increased the allowances of its employees. Apart from this, states like Jharkhand and Odisha have also increased the allowances.
