DA Hike: The central government has increased the dearness allowance (DA) of its employees by 2%. Now the dearness allowance has increased from 53% to 55%.
This change, which happens every six months, will also increase the salary of the employees, because with the increase in DA, allowances like House Rent Allowance (HRA) and Travel Allowance (TA) also increase.
The outstanding money for January and February will also be available
The government has also said that the arrears of January and February 2025 will be given along with the salary of March. This means that the employees will get the arrears of January and February months along with the increased salary in March.
When will the next hike be?
The next review of dearness allowance will be in November 2025, which will be considered effective from July 2025. This will be the last increase under the 7th Pay Commission, as the 8th Pay Commission is going to be implemented from January 2026.
Will DA be added to the basic salary?
The government has made it clear that at present there is no plan to add DA to the basic salary. Many employee organizations are demanding this, but till now there has been no green signal from the government. Earlier during the 5th Pay Commission, when the DA increased to more than 50%, it was added to the salary, but this was not done in the 6th and 7th Pay Commission.
What will happen in the 8th Pay Commission?
It has not yet been decided how DA will be calculated from 2026. At present, it is calculated on the basis of All India Consumer Price Index (AICPI-IW). But it is likely that the new pay commission may change it so that inflation can be taken into account in a better way.
What does the government say?
Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary recently said in the Rajya Sabha that the government is not planning to include DA in the salary. This means that employees will have to wait till the recommendations of the 8th Pay Commission. This decision of the government has definitely given some relief to the employees, but for major changes in the salary, now everyone will have to wait for the decisions of the next Pay Commission.
