DA Hike: Cabinet may approve increase in DA and Dearness relief of govt employees and pensioners

The decision to increase the dearness allowance and dearness relief of central employees and pensioners may be approved in the cabinet meeting to be held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi .

Dearness allowance and dearness relief may increase

The Union Cabinet meeting is scheduled to be held on Thursday, October 3 at 5 pm. And the holy festival of Navratri is starting from this day. Diwali is also at the end of October. In view of these festivals and to provide relief from inflation, the Modi Cabinet can take a decision to increase the dearness allowance and dearness relief of central employees and pensioners. The possibility of this is also high because voting for the assembly elections is going to be held in Haryana on Saturday 5 October, just two days later.

Dearness allowance will increase from July 1

It is possible to increase dearness allowance and dearness relief of central employees and pensioners by up to 4 percent. At present, 50 percent dearness allowance is being given. But it is expected that it can be increased to 54 percent. If the cabinet takes the hike in dearness allowance, it will be applicable from July 1, 2024. That is, when central employees get the salary of the month of October, it will be given with arrears.

Benefits to 49 lakh employees and 68 lakh pensioners!

Earlier, before the Lok Sabha elections , on March 7, 2024, the dearness allowance and dearness relief of central employees and pensioners were increased. Dearness allowance is increased twice a year from January to June and July to December. If the cabinet decides to increase the dearness allowance, then it will benefit 49 lakh central employees and 68 lakh pensioners and due to this decision, the government treasury will be burdened by about Rs 13000 crore.
