7th Pay Commission : Central employees who have been eagerly waiting for 18 months’ DA arrears for a long time are going to get a shock. Before the budget, the government had received 2 proposals regarding giving DA arrears.

Actually, during the time of Corona, the government did not increase Dearness Allowance (DA) from January 2020 to June 2021. Employees have been waiting for these 18 months’ DA arrears for a long time. The outstanding arrears of 18 months have not been received yet. Now the government has said this on the second DA arrears.

What is DA arrears of 18 months?

The central government used to increase the DA of central employees twice a year in January and July, but during the time of Covid, the government did not increase any dearness allowance from January 2020 to June 2021. After this, the government increased the dearness allowance by 11 percent directly on 1 July 2021. Then the dearness allowance was 17 percent, which was increased by 11 percent to 28 percent.

After this, DA increased from 17 percent to 28 percent. However, in the meantime, the government did not say anything about the dearness allowance from January 2020 to June 30. Since then, central employees are expecting to get this 18 months DA arrears from the government. Now once again the government has refused to give it.

What did the government say on 18 months’ DA arrears ?

Government employees were hoping that the government would give 18 months’ DA arrears when the condition of the economy improves but it does not seem so. In fact, once again two members in Parliament asked the government about the 18 months’ arrears of central employees. In response to this, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary said that many applications and proposals came regarding giving 18 months’ dearness allowance and dearness relief to central government employees and pensioners but the government has no intention of giving it. The government is not considering giving 18 months’ DA arrears and DA relief (Dearness Relief – DR).
